About Debra
Debra Grantz Wolf is an artist, author, and educator who lives in Dublin, Ohio. She paints with watercolors and acrylics, writes poetry and stories for children, and brings a teacher's care to the emotional lives of young people.
Combining master's degrees in communication and counseling, she created, authored, and published Peace-Abilities, a communication and conflict resolution program that helps students learn the wisdom of kindness and making peaceful choices.
Her character Dragamore carries that same dream of peaceful living from his days as a traveling puppet, teaching children how to manage challenging situations and emotions by making positive choices.
Debra paints with watercolor and acrylic, moving between landscapes, florals, abstracts, and figures that invite a slower look at color, rhythm, and form.
Her children's writing gives big feelings a gentle shape, especially through Dragamore, a not-quite-grown dragon learning courage, cooperation, and breath.
With graduate work in communication and counseling, Debra created Peace-Abilities to help students practice kindness and peaceful choices.
Artist Statement
Debra's watercolor and acrylic paintings are rooted in nature, movement, and the calm of circular forms. Her work invites the eye to slow down, follow the brushwork, and linger with color, rhythm, and peace.
Watercolor compels and challenges me to "go with the flow." I am also captivated by the bold color acrylics provide, so I embrace the beauty and creative challenges of both water mediums.
Painting is a choreography of composition and design, with color, value, and brushwork leading the eyes to behold, to feast, and to linger on nature's beauty and bounty.
Abstracts are the pure interplay of forms, colors, and value in a spiritual sense of space, offering views without boundaries of words and labels.
The first time I held a paintbrush, I had just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. My whole life up to that point, I danced, so although MS took the strength and power from my feet and legs for dancing, the paintbrush became a tool for creative expression - a new way to dance.
Story and Peace
Debra's favorite audience has always been a room full of students sharing their passion for the art of peace. Dragamore extends that work through story: a dragon learning that breath, friendship, and perseverance can turn fear into a spark.
Pause long enough to notice what color, shape, or breath is asking for attention.
Let movement become a calmer choice, whether through a brushstroke, a story, or a shared classroom moment.
Return to kindness as a practice: with children, with family, with art, and with the self.
A Reflective Practice
In Debra's paintings, circles, curves, flowers, trees, landscapes, and abstract forms become places to linger. In her writing, children are invited to pause, breathe, cooperate, and find a kind next step. The two practices meet in the same quiet attention.
Color, movement, and peace are ways Debra helps the eye and heart slow down.
Family and Home
As a mother of two and grandmother of five, Debra continues baking the rainbow cookies her mother taught her to make as a child. It is a small but telling part of the same story: making something together, sharing it, and passing care forward.
